Hospital readmission after pancreaticoduodenectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
The American Journal of Surgery Jul 19, 2018
Howard JD, et al. - Via conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers attempted to define appropriate postoperative readmission rates and modifiable risk factors for readmission for pancreaticoduodenectomy. Findings revealed the 30-day, 90-day, and overall readmission rates of 17.63%, 26.14%, and 27.18%, respectively. Readmission was noted in association with chronic pancreatitis, operative length, wound infection, intra-abdominal abscess, VTE, and LOS. The true readmission rate was underestimated using 30- and 60-day readmission data. Findings suggested the necessity for more uniform reporting to identify modifiable risk factors associated with readmission.
