Hospital frailty risk score predicts adverse events in primary total hip and knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 19, 2020
Meyer M, Parik L, Leiß F, et al. - The present study was performed to investigate the usefulness of the hospital frailty risk score (HFRS) as a predictor for postoperative adverse events after primary total hip (THA) and knee (TKA) arthroplasty. Between 2011 and 2019, researchers performed a retrospective analysis including a total of 8,250 patients who underwent THA or TKA, the HFRS was estimated for each patient. They compared reoperation rates, readmission rates, complication rates and transfusion rates between patients with low and intermediate or high frailty risk. The association between the HFRS and postoperative adverse events was evaluated applying Multivariate logistic regression models. After THA and TKA, the HFRS predicts adverse events. The data indicated that the HFRS enables hospitals to distinguish at-risk individuals without extra effort or expense as it derives from routinely collected data.
