Hormone therapy and factors affecting fertility of women under 50-year-old with breast cancer
Breast Cancer: Targets and Therapy Jan 06, 2020
Moradinazar M, et al. - In this case-control study, researchers examined the impact of fertility-related factors and the use of hormones on the risk of breast cancer in women living in the west of Iran. They selected all incidence cases of breast cancer aged 25 to 49 years old (n = 212). They gathered data using a healthy fertility program and middle-aged periodical care forms developed by Iran’s Ministry of Health. History of hormonal use for contraception and hormone therapies were identified as factors increasing the risk of breast cancer after controlling for confounding variables. Considering the impact of hormone therapy and fertility factors on breast cancer and the heterogeneity of the risk factors identified, the investigators suggest planning to sensitize, raise awareness, and educate women and clinicians on the effects of fertility and hormonal factors, including lower-age pregnancy, reducing hormone use for contraception, and hormone therapy.
