Horizontal and vertical sections of scalp biopsy specimens from dermatomyositis patients with scalp involvement

Jasso-Olivares J, et al. - The researchers herein, assessed the horizontal and vertical sections of the scalp for systematizing the histologic features of scalp involvement in dermatomyositis. A non-scarring pattern on horizontal sections, consistent with chronic telogen effluvium was demonstrated by the scalp involvement in dermatomyositis. data displayed that telangiectasia and mucin were universal histologic features. The new findings included eosinophils and acrosyringeal hypergranulosis with hyperkeratosis.
