Hook plate fixation of medial malleolar fractures: A comparative study of clinical outcomes
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery May 15, 2020
Vajapey SP, et al. - The present study was sought to compare complication and union rates in patients who had undergone hook plate fixation of medial malleolar fractures to those who had underwent fixation with 2 lag screws. Researchers recruited a sum of 31 patients in the study. According to the results, 18% to 35% complication rate was noted with this technique; nevertheless, no statistical difference was found in the complication rate between medial malleolar fracture fixation with hook plate vs 2 lag screws in our study. The results of this study showed that hook plate fixation was found to be an acceptable alternative to medial malleolar fracture fixation, particularly in patients at high risk for poor bone healing.
