Hollow adrenal gland sign on dual-phase contrast-enhanced CT in critically ill patients with sepsis
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Oct 30, 2020
Park JE, Lee GT, Lee J, et al. - Researchers conducted a single-center, retrospective study to characterize the clinical manifestations of patients with sepsis who had the hollow adrenal gland sign (HAGS) during the acute phase of resuscitation and assessed its value in anticipating in-hospital mortality. The sample consisted of patients (n = 156) with sepsis who visited the emergency department from November 2015 to December 2018. Sepsis patients who displayed HAGS had more severe illness than those who did not, and had an increased need for organ-supportive interventions. Presence of the HAGS was independently linked to in-hospital mortality.
