HLA-II genes are associated with outcomes of specific immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Nov 08, 2019
Zhao Y, et al. - In the present study, researchers analyzed the link between polymorphisms of the HLA-II gene and the effectiveness of house dust mite (HDM)-specific immunotherapy and assessed particular polymorphisms as prospective biomarkers in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) who would profit most from allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT). The sample consisted of 51 Han Chinese patients with AR receiving HDM AIT. Based on visual analogue scale and rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life, nasal and eye symptoms were investigated. The authors discovered that allele DRB1*04:06; DRB1*14:05 demonstrated a positive connection with improvements in nasal blockage, nasal itching, eye itching, and activities. Findings suggested an association of HLA-DRB1 and HLA-DQB1 gene polymorphism with AIT effectiveness in HDM-sensitive Chinese patients with AR, of which DRB1*03:01; DRB1*04:06 and DQB1*03:02:01; DQB1*05:03:01 can be helpful biomarkers of AR patient candidacy for effective AIT.
