International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Aug 18, 2017
Nakku D, et al. – This research was planned to compare the prevalence of hearing loss (HL) among HIV positive and negative children, to analyze the types of hearing loss and whether Nevirapine (NVP) based antiretroviral therapy (ART) was associated with HL. Accumulated data displayed that the prevalence of HL was similar among HIV positive and negative children. Factors like older age of the child, previous ear infection, use of tuberculosis (TB) drugs and long duration on ART among the HIV positive children increased the risk of hearing loss among children. Whereas, use of NVP was not associated with HL.
