History of posttraumatic stress disorder and outcomes after kidney transplantation
American Journal of Transplantation Jul 31, 2019
Siwakoti A, Potukuchi PK, Thomas F, et al. - Researchers examined 4479 US veterans who had undergone transplantation to determine how pretransplant history of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with posttransplantation outcomes. A matched cohort (n = 560) was created using measured covariates. History of PTSD was reported for 282 of 4479 veterans (6.3%). The risk for death with a functioning graft, all-cause death, and graft loss was similar between patients without a history of PTSD and those with a history of PTSD. Furthermore, no difference in immunosuppressive drug PDC was observed in patients with and without a history of PTSD. These findings support not precluding a veteran from being considered for transplantation in correlation to the presence of a history of PTSD in US veterans with end-stage renal disease.
