Histopathologic patterns as markers of prognosis in patients undergoing hepatectomy for colorectal cancer liver metastases - Pushing growth as an independent risk factor for decreased survival
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Apr 18, 2018
Falcão D, et al. - Researchers examined the impact of pathological findings on overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and liver recurrence-free survival (LRFS) in patients undergoing hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). Findings demonstrated indisputable prognostic value of histopathological features in patients who underwent CRLM’s resection. The pushing growth pattern (GP) was observed to be associated with worse prognosis. A positive resection margin was an independent predictor of decreased DFS but not of decreased OS. The absence of histologic tumor response was observed to associate with a strong reduction in LRFS.
