Histological assessment of stromal maturity as a prognostic factor in surgically treated gastric adenocarcinoma
Histopathology Oct 22, 2019
Kemi NA, et al. - Through a retrospective study done in a cohort of 583 individuals with gastric adenocarcinoma treated surgically in Oulu University Hospital, Finland between 1983 and 2016, experts assessed the feasibility and prognostic importance of evaluating stromal maturity in gastric adenocarcinoma. Individuals were classified into the mature stroma and immature stroma groups. In comparison with individuals with mature stroma, worse 5-year survival was noted in those with immature stroma. In the intestinal-type subgroup, stromal maturity was notably related to 5-year survival, however, it was not, in the diffuse-type subgroup. In conclusion, in gastric adenocarcinoma, stromal maturity is an independent prognostic factor and it could be investigated with modest reproducibility.
