Histologic features associated with an invasive component in lentigo maligna lesions
JAMA Dermatology May 14, 2019
Moreno A, et al. - Researchers performed this cross-sectional study of 96 patients with a lentigo maligna or lentigo maligna melanoma diagnosis, in order to assess histologic features in lentigo maligna that are associated with an invasive component. Outcomes revealed an association of the presence of melanocytes arranged in rows, subepidermal clefts, nests, and a decreased degree of solar elastosis with an invasive component. These findings may help to assess early lentigo maligna (LM) specimens at a higher risk of invasion, which may eventually assist in the identification of the most appropriate management for LM.
