Histologic and oncologic outcomes following liver mass resection with retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in patients with non-seminomatous germ cell tumor

Urology May 02, 2018

Pietzak EJ, et al. - Authors assessed the oncologic outcomes and histologic concordance of post-chemotherapy residual liver mass resection with post-chemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (PC-RPLND). They observed clinically significant discordance between the histology of metastatic liver masses and that of retroperitoneal lymph nodes. For patients with advanced non-seminomatous germ cell tumour (NSGCT), the benefit of post-chemotherapy liver mass resection was supported by favourable survival outcomes. Complete surgical resection of all sites of residual disease ought to be performed whenever feasible until more reliable predictors of post-chemotherapy histology exist.
