Histogram analysis combined with morphological characteristics to discriminate adenocarcinoma in situ or minimally invasive adenocarcinoma from invasive adenocarcinoma appearing as pure ground-glass nodules
European Journal of Radiology Mar 03, 2019
Zhang T, et al. - In the current study, researchers have developed a predictive model to distinguish adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) or minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) from invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC), which appears as pure ground-glass nodules (pGGNs,) using histogram analysis with computed tomography (CT) combined with morphological features and to assess the diagnostic performance of this technique. From January 2014 to May 2018, 289 patients with surgically resected solitary pGGN and pathologically diagnosed with AIS, MIA, or IAC in the institution were recruited. In the IAC group, entropy, microvascular sign and maximum diameter were found to be independent predictors. According to findings, histogram analysis with morphological characteristics shows better diagnostic performance in distinguishing AIS-MIA from IAC appearing as pGGNs.
