Hip dislocations and concurrent injuries in motor vehicle collisions
Injury May 04, 2018
Cooper J, et al. - Researchers aimed at describing modern-day injury profile of patients with traumatic hip dislocations, with special attention to aortic injury by retrospectively reviewing the prospectively maintained trauma database at an urban level 1 trauma center. Based on seatbelt use and airbag deployment, they grouped the patients with hip dislocation following Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVC) between January 2005 and December 2015. They noted that despite upgrades in restraint devices, hip dislocations are high energy injuries with severe associated injuries. Careful examination and heightened awareness are recommended when evaluating these patients for concomitant injuries.
