Highlighting the roles of anemia and aspirin in predicting 90-day readmission following aseptic revision total joint arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 15, 2019
Li WT, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to identify the reasons for readmission after aseptic revision total joint arthroplasties (TJA) and determine patient-specific or postoperative risk-factors by multivariate analysis. They analyzed 1503 cases of aseptic revision TJA between 2009-2016 at an urban tertiary care hospital. Eighty-seven readmission cases have been identified within 90 days of index surgery. In order to evaluate independent risk factors for readmission, bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted. Addressing preoperative anemia and considering venous thromboembolism prophylaxis aspirin can be two objectives to potentially decrease readmission following aseptic TJA revision. Infection, wound complications and dislocation/instability of the prosthetic joint were the reasons for readmission.
