Highlighting the roles of anemia and aspirin in predicting 90-day readmission following aseptic revision total joint arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 20, 2019
Li WT, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers identified the reasons for readmission after aseptic revision total joint arthroplasties (TJA) and determined patient-specific or postoperative risk-factors by multivariate analysis. One thousand five hundred three cases of aseptic revision TJA between 2009-2016 at an urban tertiary care hospital were analyzed. Eighty-seven readmission cases were identified within 90 days of index surgery. To evaluate independent risk factors for readmission, bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Infection, wound complications and dislocation/instability of the prosthetic joint were the reasons for readmission. Addressing preoperative anemia and considering VTE prophylaxis aspirin may be two objectives to potentially decrease readmission following aseptic TJA revision.
