Higher self-reported severity of atopic dermatitis in adults is associated with poorer self-reported health-related quality of life in France, Germany, the UK and the USA
British Journal of Dermatology Nov 06, 2019
Andersen L, et al. - Among adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in Europe and the USA, researchers explored the connection between AD severity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and perception of AD symptoms. For this cross-sectional, internet-based survey, candidates were recruited from the larger population-based National Health and Wellness Survey. A total of 1,232 respondents were involved: 1,098 with moderate-to-severe AD [221 from France, 209 from Germany, 118 from the UK and 550 from the USA]. An additional 134 respondents with mild AD were involved. It was noted that people with moderate-to-severe compared with those with mild AD had poorer health outcomes. Findings suggested an association of higher AD severity with poorer HRQoL across Europe and the USA. This is a burden on patients and may encourage more efficient management of AD.
