Higher mortality of adults with asthma: A 15-year follow-up of a population-based cohort
Allergy Feb 28, 2018
Lemmetyinen RE, et al. - Little is known about the effect of allergic rhinitis (AR)/allergic conjunctivitis (AC) and other factors on mortality among adult asthmatics. Herein, researchers focused on mortality and its risk factors in adults with and without asthma. They noted increased mortality among adult asthmatics, which was largely explained by the development of COPD, malignant respiratory tract neoplasms and cardiovascular diseases. In both asthmatic and non-asthmatic adults, smoking cessation was acknowledged as a crucial factor for attenuation of total mortality. Only in asthmatics, AR/AC was found to be associated with decreased mortality.
