Higher circulating adiponectin concentrations predict incident cancer in type 2 diabetes – The adiponectin paradox
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Feb 29, 2020
Lee CH, Lui DTW, Cheung CYY, et al. - Utilizing a cohort of exclusively people with T2D, researchers examined prospectively the connection between circulating adiponectin concentrations and incident cancer. Baseline serum adiponectin concentrations were measured in 5,658 candidates, selected from the Hong Kong West Diabetes Registry. Data reported that 7.53% and 3% of candidates developed cancer and had cancer-related deaths, respectively, over a median follow up of around 6.5 years. In addition to cardiovascular and kidney diseases, higher serum adiponectin concentration was independently linked to incident cancer and cancer-related deaths in T2D, suggesting that adiponectin paradox may be found in another major diabetic complication.
