High risk of postpartum relapses in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder

Klawiter EC, et al. - Researchers contemplated the consequence of pregnancy on the frequency of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) relapse and determined the rates of pregnancy-related complications in an international multicenter setting. For the initial presentation of NMOSD, the postpartum period served as a particularly high-risk time. In neuromyelitis optica, relapse rate during pregnancy exhibited a rise, although to a lesser extent than after delivery, in contrast to published observations in multiple sclerosis.
