High rate of isolated right ventricular dysfunction in patients with non-significant computed tomographic pulmonary angiography

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Oct 26, 2017

Russell FM, et al. - In this study, researchers prospectively characterize the prevalence of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and/or pulmonary hypertension (PH) in short of breath emergency department (ED) patients, and evaluate outcomes. They observed a high prevalence of isolated RV dysfunction and/or PH after a non-significant computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) in a prospective cohort of ED patients. These patients had high rates of recidivism and hospital readmission. This information supports a continued requirement for ED-based screening and specialty referral.
