High prevalence of spondyloarthritis in sarcoidosis patients with chronic back pain
Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism May 30, 2019
Sigaux J, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 64 subjects with a diagnosis of sarcoidosis and chronic back pain (CBP), researchers determined the prevalence of axial radiographic and non-radiographic spondyloarthritis (SpA) in patients with sarcoidosis and CBP and evaluated the connection between patient characteristics and SpA. On both univariate and multivariate analysis, SpA diagnosis was linked to inflammatory CBP and sarcoidosis limited to the thorax. Findings suggested an association of SpA with young age and male sex only on univariate analysis. SpA prevalence is increased in patients with inflammatory back pain with sarcoidosis. It is justified to use spine and sacroiliac MRI systematically in this subgroup. Further confirmation is needed for the association between other patient features and SpA.
