High prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease among hidradenitis suppurativa patients independent of classic metabolic risk factors
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Jul 27, 2019
Durán-Vian C, et al. - In this case-control study involving 70 hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) patients and 150 age- and gender-matched controls, researchers determined the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in HS patients and the risk factors correlated with this disorder. They included participants who were assessed by hepatic ultrasonography and transient elastography after excluding other secondary causes of chronic liver disease. The findings indicate an elevated incidence of NAFLD in patients with HS regardless of classic metabolic risk factors. Therefore, the authors recommend assessing and managing HS patients for NAFLD.
