High prevalence of house dust mite sensitization in children with severe asthma living at high altitude in a tropical country
Pediatric Pulmonology Jun 28, 2018
Duenas-Meza E, et al. - In this observational, analytical, cross-sectional study, the researchers assessed allergens sensitization, including house dust mite (HDM), in children with severe asthma (SA), residents at high altitude (HA) in a tropical middle-income developing country. Participants in the study were children aged 6-15 years old with SA at HA. Sixty-one children were included in this analysis. It was observed that children with SA living at HA in a tropical middle-income developing country had a high prevalence of HDM sensitization. Findings suggested that tropical conditions, such as temperature and humidity, could modify the effect of the altitude on asthma.
