High prevalence of Helicobacter pylori clarithromycin resistance mutations among Seattle patients measured by droplet digital PCR

Helicobacter Mar 08, 2018

Talarico S, et al. - The purpose of this research was to investigate a new culture-free assay with the intention of identifying clarithromycin resistance-conferring mutations to determine the prevalence of H. pylori clarithromycin resistance in individuals from the United States Pacific Northwest. Findings disclosed that the prevalence of clarithromycin resistance exceeded 20%, which recommended against the consideration of standard triple therapy as the first-line antibiotic treatment for H. pylori infection. It was discovered that culture-free assays for detecting clarithromycin resistance mutations could be conducted on archived tissue samples and would inform customized treatment for effective H. pylori eradication.
