Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 16, 2017
Vergouwe FWT, et al. - The prevalence of BarrettÂs esophagus (BE) and esophageal carcinoma in patients with esophageal atresia were evaluated. In young adults with esophageal atresia, the prevalence of BE was 4-fold higher, and the prevalence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was 108-fold higher compared to the general population. For the transition of young adults from pediatric care to adult gastroenterology departments to receive life-long endoscopic follow up to facilitate early diagnosis of relevant lesions, this finding could have important implications.
