High pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio as a predictor of poor survival prognosis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Head & Neck Apr 20, 2019
Yang L, et al. - In this study, investigators examined 25 literatures with 28 cohorts involving 6847 head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cases and assessed the prognostic roles of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) HNSCC cases. They observed that high pretreatment NLR predicted the following: poor overall survival (OS: HR = 1.68), disease-free survival (DFS: HR = 1.76), progression-free survival (PFS: HR = 1.53), and cancer-specific survival (HR = 1.45) in HNSCC. They did not notice a statistically significant association between PLR and OS or DFS. The NLR seemed to be as a potential prognostic biomarker for subjects with HNSCC.
