High preoperative serum prealbumin predicts long-term survival in resected esophageal squamous cell cancer
Cancer Management and Research Sep 02, 2019
Wei J, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers investigated whether preoperative prealbumin has a prognostic role in resected esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). This study included 532 cases. They found that the high prealbumin group vs the median and low prealbumin groups demonstrated a favorable 5-year overall survival (OS) rate (58.1% vs 44.6% and 31.1%, respectively). In univariate and multivariate analyses, the identified independent prognostic factors for OS included serum prealbumin, T stage, N stage, differentiation and albumin. Overall, prealbumin was identified as an independent prognostic factor as well as a prognostic indicator of postoperative results in ESCC patients.
