High LACE score with abnormal Mini-Cog is a strong predictive tool for all-cause 30-day readmissions in heart failure patients
Journal of Cardiac Failure Aug 17, 2017
Panhwar MS, et al. – The Length of Stay, Acuity, Comorbidity, and Emergency Department use (LACE) index was assessed as a predictor of 30–day readmissions in all patients with heart failure (HF), and secondarily, in those with HF and cognitive impairment (CI). Findings demonstrated that presence of cognitive impairment predicted 30–day readmissions in patients with high LACE scores. LACE score represents a crucial tool to predict readmissions and using it in concert with the mini–cog may help increase its predictive value for heart failure patients. A combined use of these tools possibly assists in guiding patient management and appropriate transitions of care.
