High-intensity focused ultrasound combined with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist or levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system in treating dysmenorrhea of severe adenomyosis
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography Apr 09, 2021
Xu Y, Zhou Z, Wang H, et al. - Via this retrospective analysis, researchers investigated the efficacy of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist vs levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) in treating dysmenorrhea in patients with severe adenomyosis. Analysis was performed including a total of 243 patients diagnosed with severe adenomyosis and their division was done into H (received HIFU alone), H-G (received HIFU combined with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist), and H-L (received HIFU combined with LNG-IUS) groups. Outcomes suggest effectiveness of high-intensity focused ultrasound alone in reducing the symptoms of dysmenorrhea in short term. However, the therapeutic effect improved for a longer period in correlation with providing HIFU combined with LNG-IUS.
