High incidence of MYC rearrangement in human immunodeficiency virus-positive plasmablastic lymphoma
Histopathology Oct 21, 2019
Miao L, Guo N, Feng Y, et al. - MYC rearrangements evaluated in 13 unpublished single-center plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) cases, and an extra 85 cases from the literature, with informed MYC rearrangement information individualized by the patient, were evaluated in order to examine the association between MYC rearrangement and the clinicopathological characteristics of PBL. In cases with PBL, MYC rearrangement was often recognized, and IGH, in an unusual majority of MYC rearrangements, was the associate gene. Moreover, in HIV-positive PBL cases vs HIV-negative patients, a significantly greater rate of the MYC rearrangement was seen. Hence, in the pathogenesis of HIV-positive PBL, MYC rearrangement could play a significant role, however, to understand the underlying mechanisms, additional studies are needed.
