High immune cell score predicts improved survival in pancreatic cancer
Virchows Archiv Jan 29, 2018
Tahkola K, et al. - The objective of this work was to examine the role of the immune cell score (IS) in patients undergoing surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC [TNM stage I–II]). Neither the IS or clinicopathologic variables had a correlation. The IS served as an independent prognostic factor for better disease-specific survival and overall survival in multivariate analysis in addition to histologic grade of the tumor and perineural invasion. Moreover, 5 MLH1-negative tumors (4.6%) did not exhibit any association with IS. Hence, IS serves as a beneficial prognostic marker in patients with PDAC undergoing primary surgery.
