High frequency of IgE sensitization towards kiwi seed storage proteins among peanut allergic individuals also reporting allergy to kiwi
Clinical and Molecular Allergy Nov 07, 2017
van Odijk J, et al. - Researchers discerned the degree of sensitization towards kiwi fruit seed storage proteins in peanut allergic individuals. The findings unveiled that 39% of the peanut allergic patients presented with kiwi fruit allergy. A higher degree of sensitization to kiwi storage proteins from both kiwi and peanut was illustrated in them. Additionally, they exhibited a higher extent of allergy to other nuts and legumes. A connection existed between IgE levels to 11S and 7S storage proteins from kiwi and peanut, on the molecular level. Hence, reported symptoms and serological findings to kiwi could be elucidated via a combination of cross-reactivity between the 11S and 7S globulins and co-sensitization to the 2S albumin Act d 13.
