Rochwerg B, et al. - Via conducting this systematic review and meta-analysis of 9 randomized, controlled trials, researchers reported on the safety and efficacy of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. Eligible studies compared HFNC with conventional oxygen therapy. The investigators noted that a reduction in the need for tracheal intubation could be achieved via the use of HFNC in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure without impacting mortality.
