High burden of sexual dysfunction in female patients with rheumatoid arthritis: Results of a cross-sectional study
The Journal of Rheumatology Jan 05, 2019
Puchner R, et al. - Investigators analyzed disease activity, depression, and disability with the help of standardized questionnaires—predominantly the Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire-short form (CSFQ-14)—to estimate the influence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on reducing women’s sexuality concerning motivation, activity, and satisfaction. They also determined the correlation of disease-related physical impairment within sexual functioning. Overall, they noted a low median CSFQ-14 score of ≤ 41 among study participants with RA, suggesting a higher prevalence of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). Despite this, no link was observed between FSD and disability/RA disease activity. They perceived no correlation of FSD with the Health Assessment Questionnaire–Disability Index and the Clinical Disease Activity Index too.
