Heterogenicity of diabetes as a risk factor for all-cause mortality after acute myocardial infarction: Age and gender impact
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Nov 02, 2021
Plakht Y, Hirsch YE, Shiyovich A, et al. - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) had a heterogenous impact on mortality in post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients, being greater in young patients, especially females, and no significant impact in octogenarians.
A retrospective analysis of 16,168 post-AMI patients, 40.3% had T2DM.
In the presence and absence of T2DM, 10-year mortality rates were 50.3% and 33.1%, respectively (adjHR=1.622).
A higher risk of mortality was observed for females (adjHR=1.085) and increased age (adjHR=1.056 for one-year increase) (borderline statistical significance for gender).
Females exhibited a stronger association between T2DM and mortality vs males at <50 and 60-69 years, but not for other age groups.
