Heterogeneity of metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor on texture analysis: ADC texture as potential biomarker of 5-year survival
European Journal of Radiology Feb 07, 2020
Fu J, Fang MJ, Dong D, et al. - The present study was undertaken to ascertain whether texture features of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) on MRI of the metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (mGIST) have an association with 5-year overall survival. The study enrolled a total of 51 GIST individuals with metastatic lesions who received imatinib targeted therapy. Using in-house software, texture features of all metastatic lesions in DWI sequences (b = 1000s/mm 2) with the largest area of the tumors were examined. Researchers examined three types of texture features: fractal features, gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features, and gray-level run-length matrix (GLRLM) features. The data indicated that the texture features of the mGIST on DWI showed an association with overall survival. The evidence showed that high-grade heterogeneity was correlated with poor prognosis.
