Hepatocellular carcinoma outcome is predicted by expression of neuronal calcium sensor 1
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jun 08, 2018
Schuette D, et al. - The relationship between Neuronal Calcium Sensor 1 (NCS1) expression levels and patient survival was explored in two publicly available liver cancer cohorts and a tumor micro array using data mining strategies. In Asian patients within these cohorts, high NCS1 expression levels had a significant association with worse disease outcome. In addition, NCS1 transcriptionally co-regulated a variety of Ca2+-dependent and tumor growth-promoting genes, and many of these genes are found to be involved in cytoskeleton organization suggesting that NCS1 induced dysregulated Ca2+-signaling facilitates cellular motility and metastasis. Findings thus suggest NCS1 as a novel biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma.
