Hepatitis C virus-related complications are increasing in women veterans: A national cohort study
Journal of Viral Hepatitis Aug 21, 2017
Kramer JR, et al. – Researchers aimed at examining trends in the incidence and prevalence of serious liver complications among women compared with men with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Findings suggested an ongoing upward trend in the incidence and prevalence of HCV complications in the present cohort of HCV–infected women. This increase in cirrhosis complications in women with active HCV infection was similar to those in men. The HCV cure was expected to reduce most of the projected burden of HCV. However, extending benefits of HCV treatment to all patients was recommended to stem the rising tide of HCV complications.
