Hepatitis C reinfection after successful antiviral treatment among people who inject drugs: A meta-analysis
Journal of Hepatology Dec 07, 2019
Hajarizadeh B, Cunningham EB, Valerio H, et al. - As HCV reinfection following successful treatment can compromise treatment outcome, researchers determined the rate of HCV reinfection after treatment among people who recently used drugs or received opioid agonist therapy via performing a systematic review. They included 36 studies that evaluated posttreatment HCV reinfection rate among people with recent drug use (injecting or non-injecting) or those receiving opioid agonist therapy (OAT). They f ound increased HCV reinfection risk following treatment among people with recent drug use vs those receiving OAT, and identified lower rates in studies with longer follow-up, suggesting higher reinfection risk early posttreatment.
