Hepatitis C in healthcare personnel: Follow-up analysis of treatments with direct-acting antiviral agents
Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology Aug 28, 2021
Westermann C, Wendeler D, Nienhaus A, et al. - In this study population, treatment with a direct-acting antiviral agent (DAA) results in a high sustained virological response (SVR).
Higher SVR is linked to early viral hepatitis C (HCV) treatment.
The majority of the people in the study (n = 305) had HP genotype 1 infection.
The average age was 63 (SD 10), and 77% of the participants were female.
Two-thirds of the HP had fibrosis or cirrhosis and had received treatment for it.
Statistically, cirrhosis was shown to be much more common in men than in women.
It was noted that the end-of-treatment response rate was 99%, while the SVR12 and SVR24 rates were 98%.
Cirrhosis of the liver was found to be a statistically significant predictor of lower success rates.
