Hemoglobin concentration does not impact 3-month outcome following acute ischemic stroke
BMC Neurology Jun 06, 2018
Sharma K, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers examined the association of hemoglobin parameters and red cell transfusion with post stroke functional outcome, after adjustment for neurological severity and medical comorbidities. Between January 2012 and April 2015, 536 patients discharged with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke from a tertiary care hospital were included. No relationship of hemoglobin parameters with mortality and 3-month functional outcome was found, which contradicts prior observational evidence. Results of this study suggested that this uncertainty could be addressed with appropriately designed clinical trials.
