Hemodynamic effects of acute hyperoxia: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Critical Care | Mar 04, 2018
Smit B, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the impact of hyperoxia on central hemodynamics and oxygen delivery in healthy volunteers and cardiovascular-compromised patients. A considerable decline in cardiac output and increase in systemic vascular resistance could be induced by hyperoxia, but effects varied between patient categories. The highest sensitivity was observed among heart failure patients while no hemodynamic effects were seen in septic patients. No evidence was found to support the notion that oxygen supplementation increases oxygen delivery.
