Hematologic markers of distant metastases and poor prognosis in gynecological cancers

Abu-Shawer O, et al. - Researchers investigated the link between absolute neutrophil count (ANC), absolute monocyte count (AMC), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with distant metastases, overall survival and event-free survival in 264 patients treated for International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage III and IV gynecological (endometrial, ovarian and cervical) cancers. More baseline distant metastases were detected among patients with high baseline NLR (≥4.1) vs patients with low baseline NLR (< 4.1). More distant metastases were detected in patients with high baseline AMC (≥560) vs those with low baseline AMC (< 560). Furthermore, they detected more distant metastases in patients with high baseline PLR (≥0.3) vs those with low baseline PLR (< 0.3). A worse overall survival was demonstrated by patients with high baseline ANC (≥5700) vs those with low baseline ANC (< 5700). Also, worse overall survival was seen in patients with high baseline AMC (≥490) vs patients with low baseline AMC (< 490).
