Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with reduced risk of Barretts esophagus: A meta-analysis and systematic review
BMC Gastroenterology Dec 10, 2021
Du YL, Duan RQ, Duan LP, et al. - The role of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), which is a class I carcinogen in gastric carcinogenesis, has been investigated in Barretts esophagus (BE).
Researchers included 46 studies from 1,505 potential citations.
Hp and BE were noted to exhibit significant inverse relationship with considerable heterogeneity; this was especially evident with the CagA-positive Hp strain; a decrease in GERD prevalence likely mediates this, although this is not evident in the absence of current Hp infection.
