Heberden's nodes and knee osteoarthritis–related osseous structural damage: Exploratory study from the osteoarthritis initiative
Arthritis & Rheumatology Apr 26, 2019
Haj-Mirzaian A, et al. - A total of 575 individuals were examined to study if Heberden's nodes (HNs) could predict magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)–based knee osteoarthritis–related osseous structural progression. Investigators noted more periarticular bone area expansion in the knee joint in cases with HNs over 24 months, particularly in medial femur and lateral femur, femoral notch, and lateral trochlea. In comparison to candidates without HNs, a drift toward less osteophyte worsening was observed in subjects with HNs in the whole knee joint, particularly in the femur region.
