Heavy coffee consumption and risk of pancreatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Digestive Diseases and Sciences Oct 15, 2018
Wijarnpreecha K, et al. – Given that heavy coffee consumption may have a protective effect against pancreatitis, researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis of four studies involving 351,137 participants to assess the relationship between the two. Using a random-effect, generic inverse variance method, pooled risk ratios (RRs) and 95% CI) were calculated. They found that the risk of pancreatitis among heavy coffee-drinkers was significantly reduced vs individuals who were not heavy coffee-drinkers (pooled RR: 0.78 [95% CI: 0.67–0.91]).
