Heart rate variability in individuals with Down syndrome – A systematic review and meta-analysis
Autonomic Neuroscience: Basic and Clinical May 17, 2018
de Carvalho TD, et al. - The researchers carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate heart rate variability in individuals with Down syndrome (DS). They performed a systematic review on PubMed, PubMed Central and Web of science databases. Articles that exhibited all the terms: “Down Syndrome”, “heart rate variability”, “autonomic nervous system”, “autonomic dysfunction” and “cardiac autonomic modulation” were included. Results of this study suggested that there is autonomic dysfunction in individuals with DS, which may or may not be expressed at rest, but it is usually exhibited in an autonomic task. Meta-analysis specified that there was no significant alteration amongst DS and the controls during rest, with the exception of RMSSD index which was lower in DS than controls.
