Heart rate variability associated with posttraumatic stress disorder in victimsâ families of Sewol ferry disaster

Lee SM, et al. – The aim of this longitudinal study was to investigate the heart rate variability (HRV) of the family members of victims of the Sewol ferry disaster. The results of this study revealed that disrupted autonomic nervous system functioning for longer than a year after trauma exposure contributed to anticipating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) vulnerability. The finding might contribute to understanding neurophysiologic mechanisms underlying secondary traumatic stress.
